Instant allergen detection: PNut's camera aimed at a cup-noodle ingredient panel, ready to scan

Two ways to scan

Whichever the packet gives you

Scan the barcode

Point the camera at the barcode. PNut looks the product up in the Open Food Facts database of millions of products and checks the ingredient list against your allergens.

Photograph the label

No barcode, or an imported packet in another language? Take a photo of the ingredients and PNut reads and analyses them in 40+ languages.

What a result looks like

The verdict, the reasoning, and the ingredients it read

Every scan shows why it decided what it decided, and the ingredient text it worked from, so you can check its work against the packet in your hand.

Four possible answers

Plain verdicts, including “I don’t know”

Every scan lands on one of four results, each with the reasoning and the ingredients PNut read.

  • Safe

None of your allergens appear in the ingredients.

  • Contains allergen

An allergen you selected is listed in the ingredients.

  • May contain

The label warns of traces or shared equipment.

  • Unknown

The label could not be read or the ingredients are incomplete.

Allergen guides

Learn the names that hide on labels

Casein is milk. Semolina is wheat. Each guide lists the aliases, the label wording by region, and what “may contain” really means.

Questions people ask

Does PNut work on labels in other languages?
Yes — it reads ingredient labels in over 40 languages and explains the result in yours. That is the case it was built for: an imported packet you cannot read.
What does “May contain” mean?
The label itself warns about traces or shared equipment — for example “may contain traces of nuts”. The allergen is not an ingredient, but the manufacturer will not rule it out.
Can I trust the result?
Treat it as a fast second pair of eyes on the label, not a guarantee. Labels change, lines are shared, and a photo can miss text. If a reaction could be severe, confirm with the manufacturer.
Which allergens does it detect?
Peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat and gluten, soy, fish, shellfish and sesame, plus others you add to your list.
Does it need an internet connection?
Yes. Barcode lookups and label analysis both happen over the network.
Is it free?
There are free scans every week. Unlimited scanning is a subscription.
